Financial Management Training Series:

Compliance and Sponsored Projects - Financial Management for
Administrative and Support Staff

Description: Sessions will provide an overview of Clarkson’s compliance program and how our daily activities play an important role in ensuring compliance. Discussion will cover financial compliance related to sponsored projects, including a focus on allowable and unallowable expenditures and the monthly task of p-card reconciliation. Participants will be given an opportunity to ask any questions related to project management and compliance.

NSF Participant Support Costs - Proposal Preparation and Management of Awards

Description:This session will address the NSF requirement to ensure participant costs are separately accounted for and expended for the appropriate and intended objectives of the sponsored project. Clarkson’s NSF Participant Support Costs procedure will be reviewed and discussions will be led to assist faculty in the budget preparation process, determination of allowable expenditures, and the accounting practices in place to ensure such costs are kept separate. Graduate students are welcome.

Utilization of Minority-Owned and Women-Owned Business Enterprises in EPA Sponsored Projects

Description: This session will provide Principal Investigators of EPA grants with the tools necessary to comply with the requirement to utilize minority-owned and women-owned business enterprises in related procurements activities, when present in the terms and conditions an award. Such procurement activities include subcontracts, purchase orders, P-card transactions, services, materials and supplies, and travel.  Focus will be given on the percentage goals that may be included in the terms and conditions of your award, finding qualified vendors, how to document best faith efforts to utilize qualified vendors, and reporting requirements.  Support Staff are also welcome.

Compliance Training Series:

Human Subjects Research 

Description:   The focus of the workshop will address institutional/investigator responsibilities and provide answers to the questions below as they pertain to the federal regulations and compliant practices of Clarkson University’s IRB.  Questions addressed include, but are not limited to:

What is human subjects research?
Who establishes the rules that Clarkson is mandated to follow?
What type of research is considered exempt?
What is the process for review?
What happens after my IRB proposal is approved?
How does IRB review integrate with the pre-award and post-award activities of the DoR?
